The MEAC has partnered with the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System (WS/FCS) to sponsor the Read with MEac community reading program for the fourth straight year.
The Read with MEac program encourages students in the WS/FCS to read non-exclusive books, while keeping track, from December 12- February 10. The program was created by the MEAC’s Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) to promote the love of reading.
This year’s program will focus on third grade student at 10 participating schools. Students participating in Read with MEac will receive a bookmark and free admittance on Education Night, Wednesday, March 7, of the 2012 MEAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament, March 5-10, at the Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Each participating school will track the number of books read by the third grade students. Schools that average at least 15 books read per student will earn a $500 donation from the MEAC for its media center.
In addition, the top readers will be recognized during a reception held at the Joel Coliseum on Wednesday, March 7, 2012. The top readers will also serve as ball boys/girls during tournament week and be recognized on court along with their principals, teachers and WS/FCS representatives.
All WS/FCS schools who reach their goals will be announced on February 21, 2012.
